Defensive Line (5): Kenny Clark, Dean Lowry, Kingsley Keke, Tyler Lancaster, Treyvon Hester

This position I really wrestled around with keeping just four players, but given the additional roster spot that opened up with the Kamal Martin injury – we’ll get to that shortly – along with the uncertainty of the group after Clark, instead of choosing between Lancaster and Hester, I went with both. Each player is known more as a run-stopper than a pass-rusher, so let’s hope we see some of that this season.

EDGE (5) Za’Darius Smith, Preston Smith, Rashan Gary, Tim Williams, Jonathan Garvin

The Green Bay Packers have several young and talented options to fill in those roster spots behind The Smiths and Gary, so this wasn’t an easy decision, and I can’t imagine that it will be for LaFleur. However, in trying to read the tea leaves, in recent interviews, Preston Smith specifically mentioned Tim Williams playing a bigger role, and Mike Pettine did the same with Jonathan Garvin. So I went with those two over Tipa Galeai and Randy Ramsey.

Linebacker (3): Christian Kirksey, Oren Burks, Ty Summers

With Martin now out for 6-8 weeks following knee surgery, the Packers are dangerously thin at this position. In addition to the three players above, they have Curtis Bolton, but he hasn’t practiced all summer and UDFA Krys Barnes. Perhaps they make a move in the next few days to add some depth, but I wasn’t going to predict a free agent signing.

So as is, they are left with three linebackers, which they can get by with as long as everyone stays healthy since over half of their defensive snaps in 2019 came from a dime defense in which there is only one linebacker on the field.

Cornerback (6): Jaire Alexander, Kevin King, Chandon Sullivan, Ka’dar Hollman, Josh Jackson, Stanford Samuels

Some will argue that Josh Jackson was on the hot seat; however, being Year 3, I never saw it that way, and he’s ended up putting together a decent training camp. Hollman isn’t a name that we’ve heard much of, but he’s an excellent athlete and an experienced press-man cover corner coming out of Toledo.

Lastly is Samuels, the UDFA from Florida State, who had a mid-round grade by several draft analysts prior to the NFL Combine, and is someone who has made a few plays in camp. He’s a physical corner with good ball skills.

Safety (5): Adrian Amos, Darnell Savage, Raven Greene, Will Redmond, Vernon Scott

When called upon last season, especially in coverage, Will Redmond had his ups and downs. However, he was excellent on special teams, and that alone warrants him a roster spot. I also think Vernon Scott makes the final roster as well, given his versatility to play down in the box and cover the slot as well. Given the importance of the dime linebacker role in this defense, the Packers need a backup plan if Raven Greene goes down.

Specialists (3): Mason Crosby, JK Scott, Hunter Bradley

It doesn’t get much easier than this. None of these players had any competition in camp at their respective positions.
