5. Kamal Martin

It’s safe to say the Packers have depth issues at inside linebacker. After letting Blake Martinez walk in free agency, they signed Christian Kirksey–an oft-injured inside backer who has experience playing under defensive coordinator Mike Pettine. However, if he gets hurts–as he so often has over the last two years–Green Bay could be in big trouble.

The good news is Kamal Martin–a 2020 fifth-round pick out of the University of Minnesota–appears to be stepping up in a big way. The bad news is he just suffered a severe knee injury and is expected to be out for multiple weeks–putting a lid on his terrif camp.

Although he wasn’t not exactly a threat to take over Kirksey’s job as the starter, he was making waves to become their number 2 inside linebacker. Martin looked fast throughout training camp and has flashed his athleticism. The biggest thing is he avoided making the dreaded rookie mistake and looks comfortable in his role. We’ll have to see what it looks like when he returns, but the injury doesn’t take away from his terrific camp.
