Packers Work Out 6 Players, Including Former Badgers’ Wide Receiver
The Green Bay Packers brought six players in for workouts on Sunday, including former Wisconsin Badgers’ wide receiver A.J. Taylor.
The work of a general manager is never complete, as they’re constantly trying to tinker with their roster in order to find the best combination possible. That tinkering even includes the last few roster spots as the Green Bay Packers brought in six players for workouts on Sunday, including former Wisconsin Badgers‘ wide receiver A.J. Taylor.
Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reported on Sunday that the Packers brought in six players total for workouts including Fisay Awolaja (G, Northern Colorado), Chidi Okeke (T, Tennesee State), La’Michael Pettway (WR, Iowa State), J’Mar Smith (QB, Louisiana Tech), A.J. Taylor (WR, Wisconsin) and Hunter Thedford (TE, Utah).
Of course, the most recognizable name on that list is Taylor (at least to readers of Dairyland Express). Taylor played four years at the University of Wisconsin and made a name for himself as a reliable physical receiver for the Badgers. Throughout his four-year career, he grabbed 89 receptions for 1316 yards and 10 receiving touchdowns. His best season came in 2018 when he caught 32 receptions for 521 yards and three touchdowns.
Unfortunately, Taylor’s senior season ended prematurely as he tore his achillies against Minnesota on Nov. 30. the injury forced him to miss the Big Ten Championship game and the Rose Bowl, also playing a big role in him going undrafted in this year’s class. Given that he’s less than a year removed from one of the most serious injuries in sports, it’s unclear just how much he has in the tank for a workout at this stage.
It will be interesting to see if anything comes out of these workouts at this stage. The regular season is set to begin in three weeks and it would be very difficult to bring in a new player at this point–for a number of reasons.
However, let’s hope Taylor did enough to impress the Packers’ brass and at least put his name on a short list moving forward.
