Green Bay Packers: EDGE Best and Worst Case Scenarios

Practice Squad Returners
All three of these guys have talent and potential, or they wouldn’t be in the NFL in any capacity. They’ll all look to graduate from the practice squad to the active roster this season.
Randy Ramsey
Ramsey was an undrafted free agent last year that saw time in all four preseason games before being cut and signed to the practice squad. In the first game, he had a sack against the Texans, but none after that. He is cousins with Darius Butler, who played safety in the NFL from 2009 to 2017, so he has somewhat of an NFL pedigree in his family.
This year, there will be no preseason games for Ramsey to show any improvements he’s made to his game over the offseason, and that goes for the other two guys in this category. They’ll all fight for that fourth spot on the roster behind the Smiths and Gary.
Greg Roberts
Greg Roberts was, like Ramsey, an undrafted free agent in 2019 after four years at Baylor. In 26 starts there, he only had three sacks but had 15.5 tackles for loss. This suggests he’s not as much of a pass rush focused guy as the others. He plays the run well and makes tackles in the opponent’s backfield.
With how the Green Bay Packers’ run defense was last season, they could use someone to help stop the run. While there will probably be only four edge rushers kept on the roster, but maybe five will be kept if it was for a different reason like stopping the run instead of the other guys that are more focused on getting to the quarterback.
Tim Williams
Unlike Ramsey and Roberts, Williams has seen time in NFL regular-season games. He spent his first two years plus on the Baltimore Ravens, where he tallied two sacks and three tackles for loss in his second season. He was waived after four games and played in one game with the Packers before going to the practice squad.
Williams is a former third-round pick and has talent, but it hasn’t panned out for him in the NFL yet. Preston Smith mentioned recently that he could play a bigger role this year, and it will be interesting to see if the things that made him a third-round pick just three years ago can shine through. If he could get into the rotation, he could make a few plays getting after the quarterback,
