Jordan Love – Rookie QB/Heir Apparent to Rodgers

Jordan Love has been thrown into an odd situation in Green Bay. If getting drafted in the middle of a global pandemic wasn’t bad enough, now he has to deal with constant scrutiny from fans and media after the Packers traded up to get him in the first round.

While Rodgers has had his own line of questioning multiple times about the situation and his thoughts on it, Love has to try to get comfortable with questions about what it’s like to play behind one of the all-time greats in Rodgers.

Love has all the tools to be a great quarterback in this league – I like to think of him as the Green Bay Packers’ version of Giannis Antetokounmpo, a somewhat low ceiling guy who could be a big star. Sometimes that makes me feel a little better.

At any rate, the biggest thing for him this year is learning the playbook and soaking up all the knowledge Rodgers can give him about being an NFL quarterback. Game action is an important part of this development, so his best-case scenario would be getting into some games in garbage time, especially with the preseason gone. If he can get into somewhere from four to six games and get real snaps throwing the ball and running the offense, that would do wonders for his development.

His worst-case scenario would be not being able to play at all. If Rodgers gets injured, there will be a decision to be made between Love and Boyle, and seeing as Boyle is more experienced they could go to him.

However, late-game blowout situations should be all Love’s. The worst case would be the Green Bay Packers having lots of close games like last year in which they couldn’t pull away and not getting Love those valuable snaps.
