Packers’ 2020 Depth Chart Projections: Cornerback
Projecting what the Green Bay Packers’ depth chart at cornerback could look like heading into training camp of the 2020 season.
The Green Bay Packers cornerback position is fairly stable entering the season (even if it only lasts for one year), as they know who their guys are at the top of the depth chart. Still, there are questions about depth and exactly who will fill those slots.
Jaire Alexander enters his third year in the NFL as an up-and-coming cover man in today’s game. His only weakness appears to be his size (5-foot-10), as he has no issue sticking to his man like glue. He’s fast, agile and a supreme competitor. What more could you ask for?
King had one of the best seasons of his career in 2019 as well. It was no coincidence it was also his healthiest. He did struggle at times, but he was also able to use his size to his advantage in coverage. He’s entering a huge contract season in 2020.
CB1: Jaire Alexander
CB2: Kevin King
CB3: Chandon Sullivan
CB4: Ka’dar Hollman
CB5: Josh Jackson
CB6: Kabian Ento
CB7: Stanford Samuels
CB8: Marc Antoine-Dequoy
CB9: Will Sunderland
CB10: DaShaun Amos
With Tramon Williams still on the free agent market, Chandon Sullivan appears to be the lead man for the third cornerback spot. Although it’s not technically listed as a starter, the nickle corner carries a lot of weight in the Packers’ defense. Sullivan will have to show he’s up to the task.
There also figures to be a fierce competition for the fourth cornerback job. Ka’dar Hollman is a speedster who basically redshirted in his rookie season despite staying on the 53-man roster for the entire year. He’ll have another opportunity to build off his strong 2019 preseason showing.
Josh Jackson appears to be at the other end of the spectrum. He’s disappointed as a former second-round pick and doesn’t have what it takes to succeed in the NFL. His lack of speed is his biggest weakness.
The Packers will be hard-pressed to keep more than five cornerbacks unless someone else proves worthy. That leaves Kabian Ento, Stanford Samuels, Marc Antoine-Dequoy, Will Sunderland and Dashaun Amos fighting for a job on the practice squad. If there’s one guy to watch–it’s likely undrafted free agent Samuels. Otherwise, barring a huge surprise, don’t expect any of them to make the final roster.
