Green Bay Packers: 5 Undrafted Free Agents to Keep Your Eyes On
By Paul Bretl
Tipa Galeai – EDGE
Unlike the other positions already mentioned, with Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith, the Green Bay Packers are doing quite well at the edge-rusher position. However, with Kyler Fackrell now in New York with the Giants, the Packers do have an opening on the roster. Perhaps even two depending on how many edge-rushers they decide to carry on the 53-man.
Enter Tipa Galeai, who after transferring to Utah State from TCU, would appear in 25 games where he totaled 119 tackles, 24 for a loss, and 15 sacks with two interceptions.
Galeai has several pass-rush moves that he utilizes, along with active hands and good length. This led to him being productive against both the run and the pass while in college. However, it’s worth noting that at only 235 pounds, he is going to need to add some weight to compete at the NFL level.
Here is what Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network had to say about Galeai prior to the NFL Draft:
"“Galea’i is an athletic pass rusher who is best suited as a 3-4 outside linebacker and can occasionally line up at defensive end on passing downs. He offers upside, but he may not be able to develop into more than a pass-rush specialist who is solely sent up the field.”"
Galeai will enter Packers’ training camp with a strong foundation and a good skill-set already in place, while he may never be much of a run defender as Pauline points out, he could provide a boost on passing downs.
