Frankie Griffin – S

With Raven Greene out for much of the 2019 season, it was quite obvious how much the middle of this Green Bay Packers’ defense missed his versatile presence. As the hybrid linebacker/safety – an important position in this Mike Pettine defense – Greene can play closer to the line of scrimmage while also providing help in coverage.

At this point, we know that Greene, Darnell Savage, and Adrian Amos will be on the roster but there is another spot or even two available at the safety position for Frankie Griffin to potentially land.

Coming out of Texas State, Griffin was a productive and quite versatile player while there. Listed as a safety with the Packers, Griffin started at linebacker at one point for the Bobcats and lined up just about everywhere over his career while receiving elite coverage and run defending grades during the 2017 and 2018 seasons according to Pro Football Focus.

Griffin doesn’t have top-end speed and it’s fair to wonder how he will adjust to life at the NFL level coming from Texas State, but you can’t deny his versatility and how well he could fit in this Mike Pettine defense. Griffin has the skill-set to provide reinforcements behind Greene in the aforementioned hybrid linebacker/safety role.
