Stanford Samuels – CB

Cornerback is another position for the Green Bay Packers that comes with a lot of inexperience. Jaire Alexander and Kevin King will be holding things down on the outside, and we hope Chandon Sullivan can take over as the primary slot corner and build off of his 2019 performance, but there’s no guarantee that happens either.

Then there is Josh Jackson who rarely saw the field in 2019, second-year player Ka’dar Hollman, DeShaun Amos from the CFL, and Kabion Ento, who was on the practice squad last season. Like Krys Barnes at linebacker, this opens the door for Stanford Samuels to make the roster.

Samuels would make 23 starts during his Florida State career, and in 2019, he held opposing quarterbacks to a completion percentage of just 51 percent, a passer rating of 71.0, and he’d also add two interceptions along with seven pass breakups.

Before the NFL Combine, some scouts thought he could be a mid-round pick, however, a 4.65 40-yard dash sent him tumbling down draft boards. With that speed, Samuels will likely never be a top-end corner, but if he’s your fourth or fifth option, then you’re doing alright.

Samuels is going to fit well in Mike Pettine’s press man coverage scheme as he brings a physical presence to the position with good ball skills.
