Krys Barnes – ILB

As long as he is healthy, Chrisitan Kirksey is going to be the starting inside linebacker for the Green Bay Packers this season. But after that, we don’t know a whole lot about what to expect from the position.

We hope that Oren Burks finally begins to put it together but that remains to be seen. And then there are young players like Ty Summers, Curtis Bolton, and fifth-round pick Kamal Martin. These unknowns open the door for Krys Barnes to make a roster push if he impresses this summer.

Although undersized, Barnes is an experienced player having appeared in 43 games at UCLA where he did a little bit of everything. At the NFL level, he will have to show that he can hold his own against the run but he’s a proven blitzer and can give the Packers coverage ability at the linebacker position. Something that they’ve certainly been lacking.

Here is what draft analyst Tony Pauline from Pro Football Network had to say about Barnes in his scouting report:

"“Analysis: Barnes was a hard-working linebacker who possesses a good head for the ball, but he comes with poor measurables. He offers possibilities as a sixth linebacker who can line up on coverage units at the next level.”"

Like any UDFA, Barnes will have to make some noise on special teams but with his ability to work in space and the uncertainty at the linebacker position, he’s worth keeping an eye on.
