Milwaukee Bucks: 5 Best-Case Scenarios for 2020 NBA Draft
These five players represent the best-case scenarios for the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2020 NBA Draft.
With the NBA likely holding their draft on Oct. 15, we finally have a nearly-finalized date for the league’s big day. What will happen before then is up in the air, and, hopefully, the Milwaukee Bucks have a lot of basketball to play.
Depending on what happens with the eight remaining regular season games, the Bucks will likely pick somewhere between 18-22, as they hold the Indiana Pacers’ first round selection thanks to the Malcolm Brogdon trade last summer.
As teams wait to see what the NBA combine will look like or if they’ll even be having one, scouts and front office personnel have been scouring over game film to continue breaking down prospects. These five players are unlikely to fall to Milwaukee, but would be a huge steal if the Bucks somehow come away with any of them.
5. R.J. Hampton
R.J. Hampton elected to go to New Zealand and play for the NBL instead of attending college last season. The transition was a rough one, as expected, and some of his major flaws were exposed. Mostly, his lack of shooting. Still, Hampton is an elite athlete who can fly up and down the floor and is oozing with potential. If his jump shot ever comes around, he’ll be a heck of a player.
4. Saddiq Bey
Someone who doesn’t struggle with their jumper at all is Villanova’s Saddiq Bey. In two years of college ball, he’s connected on 41.8 percent of his threes including a whopping 45.1 percent this season. He’s a wing/forward type who could adequately defend multiple positions while stretching the floor on the other end. His ceiling isn’t as high as the other guys on this list, but he’s a solid player in his own right.
3. Patrick Williams
Patrick Williams enters the draft as a high-risk, high-reward prospect, He’s raw, but flashed the ability to defend at least three positions and do it very well. He’s a good team defender and can make all the hustle plays as well. His offense needs a lot of work and he was inconsistent at Florida State last year. However, he showed he could have the tools to maintain a long NBA career.
2. Aaron Nesmith
Outside of the next player on this list, Aaron Nesmith is my favorite prospect. The dude knocked down 52.2 percent of his threes at Vanderbilt last year and did it in a variety of ways–catch-and-shoot, on the move and off the bounce. He can quickly get his shot off on the move and do so with a hand in his face. He broke his foot early in the year and that’s something worth keeping an eye on as teams might have to get creative when it comes to obtaining medical records.
1. Devin Vassell
Devin Vassell has shot up draft boards since play has shut down and now finds himself in the top 10 on most big boards. That makes it very unlikely he’ll fall to the Bucks. However, if he slips for whatever reason, Milwaukee would be crazy not to pounce. He’s extremely long and is a great defender already. He can also hit spot-up threes with the potential to add some shot creation to his game in the coming years.
