Marquez Valdes-Scantling

I mean, there’s no way to sugarcoat it, the second half of last season was ugly for Marquez Valdes-Scantling. We saw him misplaying deep balls, drop passes, and his snap count dwindled to almost nothing. But there are reasons to be optimistic as well.

Valdes-Scantling put together a productive rookie campaign in 2018 and he was off to a very good start last season through the first seven weeks. During that stretch, he averaged nearly 20 yards per catch with two touchdowns. This also includes a 99-yard performance against Denver and a 133-yard game against Oakland.

With his 4.38 – 40 speed, Valdes-Scantling is the best option on this team when it comes to being a deep threat. We already know that one of Matt LaFleur’s goals in 2020 is to create more explosive plays and even if the Packers do become more run-oriented – which is what everyone is expecting – that still means plenty of play-action and shots downfield.

This is Valdes-Scantling’s calling card and the reason he was drafted. Despite the rough end to last season, the opportunities are going to be there for him this season. And if he can capitalize on them, big receiving numbers are going to follow.
