Green Bay Packers: 5 Free Agent Additions That Still Make Sense
By Paul Bretl

Overall the Green Bay Packers’ defense was improved last season but as we saw in the NFC Championship Game, they have a long way to go against the run. And with no major additions this offseason, nobody really knows where that help for Kenny Clark is going to come from.
The hope is that Kingsley Keke takes a step forward, or that Tyler Lancaster continues to develop, but that remains to be seen. So given the circumstances, I don’t see a reunion with Mike Daniels as such a crazy idea. That is as long as he is healthy.
Over the last two seasons with Green Bay and Detroit, Daniels has appeared in just 19 games, primarily due to a foot injury. However, prior to 2018, he had missed only four total games and was a force against the run.
In fact, by Pro Football Focus’ run stop metric, he was one of the best run-stuffers in the game from 2015 to 2017, while also being able to get after the quarterback as well.
And this time around with the Packers, Daniels wouldn’t have to be “the guy.” Instead, he would be more of a rotational player which should help keep him healthy, while also keeping him fresh into the fourth quarter, and he’d be put into a position to succeed on a more consistent basis.
Daniels is the third former Green Bay Packers player on this list, but given this skill-set and the current state of the team, bringing him back for 2020 makes a lot of sense. Once again, as long as he is healthy.
