Players that Should be Re-signed

David Bakhtiari LT

This one should be simple. At 28-years-old Bakhtiari is arguably the best blindside tackle in the game. He’s playing in the last of a 4-year, $48 million contract. The top-five highest-paid left tackles in the game are averaging just under $17 million per year. Expect Bakhtiari to ask for a four or five-year contract worth around that much.

Kenny Clark DL

It’s strange that the Green Bay Packers haven’t already signed Clark to a second contract, but the organization has over $8 million at their disposal right now. I assume that will be used to secure Clark, prior to the 2021 offseason. He’s one of the best interior defensive linemen in the game. The Packers can’t afford to let him walk.

Jamaal Williams RB

This may be controversial, but Jamaal Williams should be re-signed. It’s likely that Aaron Jones hits free agency after this season. With the running back market being what it is today, Williams can be re-signed for a long, team-friendly contract. A.J. Dillon would assume early-down responsibilities, while Williams takes control of third-down back duties and spells Dillon on run downs. The two could form a dangerous duo for years to come.

Tyler Ervin RB

Make that a trio of talented running backs. Tyler Ervin is a young man working on a one-year deal, who should operate as the Packers’ fourth running back in 2020. He has the potential to be a game-breaking gadget player and change of pace back, on the cheap. Coupled with his ability as a return man, Ervin should offer a fantastic return on investment for the Green Bay Packers.

Chandon Sullivan CB

Sullivan is staring down a potential breakout season in 2020. He’s in position to start at slot corner, and he could be a good one. I expect him to play well enough to earn a multi-year contract with the Packers.

Allen Lazard WR

Lazard is the likely no. 2 receiver for the Packers this year. He’s a big-bodied downfield threat that wins contested catches. His skills as a run-blocker make him even more valuable. He’ll ask for a multi-year contract and the going rate for a player of his caliber is around $5 million per year. The Green Bay Packers would be wise to offer him that.

Robert Tonyan TE

Tonyan hasn’t had the breakout season that we hoped he would. He’ll probably never be “the guy” for the Packers, but he provides depth as a receiving threat. Tonyan is operating on the second year of his two-year contract, recording a $750,000 cap hit on the Packers’ pocketbook for 2020. He’ll likely ask for another two or three-year contract for around double the money. He’s already proven to be worth that.

Marcedes Lewis TE

Lewis is getting up there in age. We may see some regression soon, but as of right now, he’s one of the best blocking tight ends in the league and can still catch a pass or two. Rodgers loves Lewis for his reliability. He was re-signed for the 2020 season on a one-year contract worth $2.25 million. If he has similar production this year, the Packers should give Lewis a repeat offer next offseason.
