Round 1, Pick 30: Tua Tagovailoa, QB

As you’d expect, there were quite a few quarterbacks taken before the Green Bay Packers were on the clock, which didn’t leave a ton of options at pick 30.

While we did see a few teams select non-quarterback positions prior to the Packers, including Khalil Mack, Christian McCaffrey, Aaron Donald, and The Bosas, having a good quarterback in today’s NFL is a must. Even if it means passing up a star at another position.

So taking Tagovailoa was the right decision and Demovsky also took the best option available. A few other quarterbacks still on the board were Cam Newton, Josh Allen, Justin Herbert, Kirk Cousins, Jared Goff, Daniel Jones, Phillip Rivers, and Derek Carr. A whole lot of meh.

Although Tagovailoa is still a relative unknown at the NFL level given that he hasn’t played a game yet and there are some concerns about his injury history, he easily has the highest ceiling of the quarterbacks that were still available. And with a position as important at quarterback, that’s what I’m looking for.
