3 Rising Stars on the Green Bay Packers
There is some good young talent on the Green Bay Packers and these three players are on their way to greatness in the NFL.
When it comes to youth, the Green Bay Packers were a tale of two units last season.
Their offense, anchored by 36-year-old Aaron Rodgers, had a weighted age of 28.1 according to Football Outsiders in 2019. That was the second-oldest offense in the NFL, only behind the Tom-Brady led New England Patriots.
Their defense was on the other end of the spectrum, as they had a weighted age of just 25.5–the fourth-youngest in the league. Overall, their average weighted age was 26.6–tied with four other teams for eight-oldest in the league and just above the average age of 26.4.
All of that is to say that even though the Packers aren’t the youngest team in the league, they definitely have some rising stars on their roster. These three players are the best of their young crop and have bright futures ahead of them.
Elgton Jenkins
When Elgton Jenkins was selected in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, many fans weren’t that excited about the pick. It’s not that people were disappointed, but it’s safe to say drafting a left guard isn’t exactly sexy. Fortunately, Jenkins proved to be a difference-maker in his first season, taking over as the starting left guard in Week 3. Jenkins proved to be one of the best rookie linemen last year and should only get better with time. Don’t expect his ascension to stop anytime soon.
Jaire Alexander
Despite entering his third season in the NFL, Jaire Alexander is still just 23-years-old–a whole year younger than Jenkins. Alexander took a step forward with his play last year and is quickly establishing himself as one of the best cornerbacks in the league. Despite standing just 5-foot-10, he will battle with anyone and is a constant pest. Get ready for yet another step forward for him in 2020.
Aaron Jones
Aaron Jones had his breakout season last year when he ran for 1084 yard and a combined 19 touchdowns. If he can stay healthy once again in 2020, he should be able to top those numbers for an offense that continues to trend toward running the ball. In the final year of his rookie deal, Jones is poised for a huge contract next year whether it be with the Packers or someone else.
