Green Bay Packers: 5 Most Intriguing Players Heading into 2020
By Paul Bretl
Rick Wagner
The tackle position is a premier one in the NFL and it’s also a position that the Green Bay Packers haven’t had to worry about for a number of seasons with the one-two punch that was David Bakhtiari and Bryan Bulaga.
However, Bulaga is now out in Los Angeles and in his place is former Wisconsin Badger and NFL veteran, Rick Wagner. Now, we all know that Wagner just isn’t the same caliber of player that Bulaga is, but the big question is, how much of a downgrade is he?
Wagner would play in only 12 games last season and when he was on the field, he would struggle. And unfortunately, that isn’t the only time that Wagner has missed games in his career. In fact, since 2014 he has started all 16 games just one time. Couple that with the Packers lack of depth at the tackle position, and there is definitely reasons for concern this season.
The Green Bay Packers have a quarterback that turns 37-years-old next season, he isn’t as mobile as he once was, and he likes to hang on to the football. To put it simply, this offense needs Wagner to perform as he did a few years ago and I’m very interested to see if he will be able to do so.
