Limiting the big pass play

The big play in the passing game is something that fortunately did improve as the season went on, but it was still a major issue for much of it, and it still reared its ugly head at times.

According to NFL.com, the Green Bay Packers gave up 56 passes of at least 20 yards last season which tied for the 10th most. And when it came to giving up plays of 40 yards or more, the Packers were one of the worst in football. Opponents would total 15 pass plays of at least 40 yards which was tied for the second-most in the NFL.

This would oftentimes happen over the middle of the field – which we will get to shortly – and tight ends were a major issue as well. A few contributors to this problem was a lack of communication, this just being a young secondary overall, and the aggressiveness of players like Jaire Alexander and Kevin King would result in their man getting behind them.

With a secondary made up of players like Alexander, King, Savage, and Amos, I don’t anticipate this being as big of an issue this upcoming season. This is a very talented group and with another training camp and preseason together, these mistakes should get cleaned up. At least that’s what needs to happen.
