Zack Johnson OL – NDSU

With Bryan Bulaga now out in Los Angeles, for the first time in a while, there is some uncertainty at the right tackle position. Although we know it is likely Rick Wagner’s job, he is coming off a down season and he has only played in all 16 games just one time since 2014.

Not to mention that outside of Wagner and David Bakhtiari, there is very little tackle experience on this roster. And that is a big reason that Zack Johnson of North Dakota State could make a push for a roster spot.

Johnson started 46 straight games to finish his career with the Bison and he has shown that he can play inside at guard where he was an FCS first-team All-American in 2019. But he also has the athleticism to play the right tackle position where he was an FCS second-team All-American selection in 2018.

For one, that versatility already gives him an edge because the Green Bay Packers won’t just be rostering a tackle but they have another option at guard as well. Which as we’ve seen is an important aspect to Brian Gutekunst and company. On top of that, as a four-time National Champion, Johnson comes from a winning culture at North Dakota State.

Ultimately it all comes down to what Johnson does on the practice field but with his ability to play inside and on the edge, along with the lack of depth at the tackle position, he’s certainly in the mix for a roster spot.
