Right Tackle

Bryan Bulaga headed west in free agency to join the Los Angeles Chargers and the recently signed Rick Wagner is expected to take over the right tackle duties in 2020. Wagner is coming off a down 2019 season where he would miss four games due to an injury and when he was on the field, he wasn’t at his best.

After the draft, Head Coach Matt LaFleur mentioned that Wagner would be competing for the starting job at right tackle and given his up and down track record, I don’t see a problem with that. But the big question is, who is he going to compete against?

Green Bay has very little experience at the tackle position behind David Bakhtiari and Wagner. There are the likes of Yosh Nijman, Cody Conway, John Leglue, and a couple of undrafted free agents but can we really expect them to truly compete for meaningful snaps? Lane Taylor also has some experience at tackle – albeit not much – but once again, can he be counted on there?

Not to mention that it doesn’t look like the right tackle of the future is even on the roster at the moment.

The tackle is a premier position in this league and the Packers have a soon to be 37-year-old quarterback, This isn’t a position that they can afford to miss on.
