The NFL will announce the 2020 schedule on Thursday night so let’s make some predictions about when the Green Bay Packers will play.

It’s murky if the NFL will begin their season on time due to the COVID crisis, but it’s clear the league is moving forward as planned with the release of their 2020 schedule on Thursday night. And, although the Green Bay Packers already know their opponents, they’ll find out when they play who.

The schedule release is a fun time for fans, as it allows a season that feels years away to become just a little more real. Before we get there, however, let’s make three predictions about the Packers’ schedule.

Week 1 at San Francisco 49ers

When I eat my meals, I always eat the food I enjoy the least first so I can get it out of the way and savor the better foods on my plate. Green Bay got straight whooped in their two trips to San Fran last season, losing both games by a combined score of 74-28. Yuck. In fact, Green Bay is just 1-4 in their last five games at the 49ers. After the offseason each of these teams had, it doesn’t appear the Packers have much of a chance to fare any better the next time around so we might as well get it out of the way first.

Thanksgiving at Detroit Lions

It’s already been five years since the Packers played on Thanksgiving (2015 for you math wizards) and they didn’t even play the Lions in that contest. The last time they played Detroit was 2013 when they got whooped 40-10. With Detroit working on a rebuild, we could use some extra holiday cheer this season and witness a Green Bay victory over Detroit in the opening Thanksgiving Day game.

Finale at Minnesota Vikings

The NFL has been scheduling the last two regular season games against divisional opponents and that trend should continue. However, Green Bay has finished the season against Detroit in each of the last five years, but this time I think it will be against the Vikings. The Packers and Vikings should be vying for the NFC North Championship and what better way to create drama than to pit these two teams against one another in the final game of the season?
