Marquez Valdes-Scantling

Excluding Davante Adams and Allen Lazard, the wide receiver group as a whole last season was quite underwhelming. And Marquez Valdes-Scantling’s lack of production contributed to that.

With his 4.37 speed, Valdes-Scantling gives the Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers a deep, home run threat, and when it works, it’s beautiful. Last season Valdes-Scantling would haul in four receptions of at least 40 yards, including a 74 yarder, and five receptions over 25 yards. Unfortunately, there is just too much inconsistency.

We would see Valdes-Scantling having trouble tracking the ball at times and making the play. This resulted in a loss of Rodgers’ confidence and as the season went on, his snap count dwindled. In fact, from Weeks 14 through 16, Valdes-Scantling saw just 30 total snaps.

Looking ahead to 2020, with only the addition of Devin Funchess at the receiver position, Valdes-Scantling should see plenty of opportunities once again. But now in Year 3 and after a 2019 season to forget about, if Valdes-Scantling can’t become a more reliable downfield target, he could very well be on the outside looking in come 2021.
