The Green Bay Packers used their third and final selection in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft to select their third straight offensive lineman, Simon Stepaniak.

The Green Bay Packers had three picks in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft and used all three to beef up their offensive line. After selecting do everything linemen Jon Runyan Jr. earlier in the round, they went with center Jake Hanson with pick 208. Right back on the clock at pick 209, they selected another lineman, guard/tackle Simon Stepaniak out of Indiana.

The Stepaniak selection continued a trend that shows Green Bay may run the ball more than ever whenever football resumes. They used their Day 2 picks on beefy running back A.J. Dillon before snagging H-back/fullback/tight end Josiah Deguara in the third round.

At 6-foot-4 and 313 pounds, Stepaniak is strong as a mountain and figures to be able to play either guard position in the NFL. He loves to get into his man and drive them out of the play, something his new head coach Matt LaFleur will love. He’s also an excellent finisher on blocks.

The reason he lasted this long is due to questions about his length. His arms were measured at 32 inches and he also has issues with power rushers despite putting up an impressive 37 reps on the bench press. He could definitely use some improvement in his fundamentals as well.

At this point in the draft, Green Bay is likely selecting the best player that falls to them. It’s unlikely all three linemen they took in the sixth round will make the final roster in 2020. However, if just one or two of them stick and end up being a positive contributor at some point in their career, it’s a good haul for general manager Brian Gutekunst.
