As you tune into the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, keep your eyes on these three things surrounding the Green Bay Packers.

All eyes will be on the NFL as the 2020 Draft is set to begin on Thursday night. The Green Bay Packers hold the 30th overall selection (as of now) which means there will be plenty of time to sit back, relax and see how everything plays out.

As you’re kicking your feet up, keep your eyes peeled on these three things.

Division Rivals

The Packers won the NFC North by going 13-3 and a perfect 6-0 in their division in 2019. Not bad for a team that failed to finish above .500 the previous two seasons. However, the Minnesota Vikings (10-6) and Chicago Bears (8-8) will be hot on their heels next season, while the Detroit Lions (3-12-1) still have a lot of work to do.

The Lions will be first on the clock with the third overall selection. They’ll have every chance to acquire a difference-maker so keep your eye on them early on. As the draft swings to the later stages, it will be the Vikings who are worth watching, as they hold the 22nd and 25th overall picks. They’re especially likely to grab a wide receiver with one of those selections which makes it doubly interesting to Packers’ fans. Lastly, the Bears are set to sit Round 1 out (barring a trade) as they shipped this year’s first-rounder to the Raiders in the Khalil Mack deal.

Potential Trade

Speaking of trades, Green Bay is just as likely to trade up or down from their first round perch. General manager Brian Gutekunst has been unpredictable throughout his two drafts as the lead decision-maker and that’s more true than ever this season. If a player begins to slip down the board and into the early-to-mid 20s, don’t be surprised to see Gutekunst strike. It’s also true that he could trade down into the early second round and snag another mid-round pick to address the gluttony of Packers’ needs.

Format

It will be fun to watch a bunch of boomers try to navigate the virtual world that will be this year’s NFL Draft. With everyone in separate locations and general managers not having the bevy of their guys at their immediate disposal, there are sure to be some hitches along the way. It will also be different without the crowd jeering Roger Goodell every time he walks to the podium.
