Cole Kmet TE – Notre Dame

Although this is far from a deep tight end class, many analysts have Kmet as the No. 1 TE on their big boards and lately, he has been getting quite a bit of first-round buzz. Kmet has the potential to become a weapon in the passing game for whoever drafts him, however, he needs to become a much better blocker to be on the field for all three downs and it may take him a few seasons to reach that potential.

For the Green Bay Packers, while they could use another tight end on the roster for depth, the first or even second rounds aren’t the place to find that player. It’s not just Kmet, but rarely do we see any tight ends produce in their rookie seasons and sometimes not even in their second.

With the Packers being on the cusp of a Super Bowl in 2019, they should use these first few picks on players that can help right away, or a future right tackle, which is a far more important position than tight end. If Green Bay does, in fact, want to add another tight end to the mix that they hope contributes in 2020, they should look to free agency instead.
