Green Bay Packers: 5 Targets For 62nd Overall Draft Pick
The Green Bay Packers need to find a contributor with their second round pick and here are five players they could potentially target at 62 overall.
The Green Bay Packers have needs at a number of positions including wide receiver, offensive tackle, defensive line, cornerback and tight end. That puts them in a position to be flexible with their approach to the 2020 NFL Draft, and, depending on what happens in the first round, they could target a number of guys with their 62nd overall selection.
5. Isaiah Wilson, OT, Georgia
The Packers lost/elected to not pursue Bryan Bulaga in free agency this year and replaced him with Ricky Wagner. Unfortunately, Wagner isn’t the long-term solution, instead, providing a stop-gap until a better player comes along.
That’s where Georgia’s Isaiah Wilson enters the picture. He’s a good athlete who has the potential to developed into a very good starting right tackle in the NFL. He’s a bit inconsistent in his play, but showed continual improvement throughout his time at Georgia. It might take him a year or two, but he should be more than ready by the time Wagner’s contract is up in two years.
4. Devin Duvernay, WR, Texas
Even if the Packers take a wide receiver in the first round like may fans are hoping for, it’s certainly in play for them to double up at the position considering their needs. After combining for 70 receptions throughout his first three years at Texas, Duvernay exploded into the scene in 2019–catching 106 freakin’ passes. That’s not a typo.
Not only could he do the dirty work as a possession receiver in the slot for the Packers, but he fills their need for speed as well. He ran a 4.39 second 40-yard dash and can straight fly on the football field. He needs work on running routes and could take some time to develop, but he’s a different type of player than what Green Bay currently has at wide receiver.
3. Jeff Gladney, CB, TCU
The Packers quietly have a need at cornerback and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they use yet another top pick to address the issue. Jeff Gladney would fit right in alongside Jaire Alexander given his competitive nature. The TCU product loves to get up in wide receiver’s faces at the line of scrimmage and makes them work for every inch. He also has a natural ability to find the ball, something the Packers’ defense could use more of.
2. Noah Igbinoghene, CB, Auburn
Speaking of cornerbacks, Igbinoghene is another physical prospect on defense and could be a good value pick for Green Bay. He might not be as NFL-ready as Gladney, but would provide good depth for the Packers. He’s extremely physical in press coverage and also tackles well for his position. He would probably need a year or two to develop, but could make an impact on special teams right away.
1. Donovan Peoples-Jones, WR, Michigan
Peoples-Jones was a big name coming out of high school, but never quite lived up to the hype at Michigan. He doesn’t address the Packers’ speed issue on the outside, but fits the mold of a big wide receiver such as the ones general manager Brian Gutekunst seems to like.
He could play the slot, fitting in nicely alongside Davante Adams and Allen Lazard on the outside. His tape doesn’t quite match his raw, athletic ability which means he’s a risky pick in a draft deep at wide receiver.
