The Green Bay Packers could address their hole at tight end by looking into acquiring any one of these four available players.

It’s hard to make the case the Green Bay Packers have gotten better this offseason despite some early free agent activity on Monday. Before the legal tampering period even began, they signed inside linebacker Christian Kirksey and right tackle Ricky Wagner. Since both players were released by their teams earlier in the offseason, the Packers didn’t have to wait until free agency began to acquire them.

Both players stabilize their respective positions, but it’s difficult to make the case the Packers got better with those two signings. Fortunately, the offseason is just getting started and Green Bay has the resources necessary to make another significant acquisition or two.

Their most glaring need is their lack of pass catchers on offense. Green Bay desperately needed to address this situation in the offseason and their lone move has been to waive Jimmy Graham, creating more cap space. They did re-sign Marcedes Lewis on Wednesday, but they still need to upgrade their tight end position. So, without further ado, here are four available tight ends they can still acquire:

Tyler Eifert

Tyler Eifert’s promising career has been derailed by injuries seemingly every season. Throughout his seven-year career, he’s only played in 16 games once (last season) and double-digit games three times. Even despite the injuries sapping his athleticism, he managed to haul in 43 receptions for 436 yards and three touchdowns. For comparison, Graham had 38 catches for 447 yards and three touchdowns. Eifert may not be the sexiest option at this point in his career, but he’s likely on the cheaper side should the Packers choose to pursue it.

Delanie Walker

The oldest tight end you’ll find on this list, Delanie Walker’s best days are well behind him. He’ll turn 36 in August and has only played in eight combined games over the last two seasons. Hopefully, he’s taken the time to get his body right, as he could be a one-year stop-gap until Jace Sternberger or another tight end is ready to take over.

David Njoku

The only non-free agent you’ll find on this list, David Njoku could be a trade candidate for the Packers. The Browns just signed Austin Hooper to a big deal and might not have use for Njoku any longer. After flashing potential in his first two seasons, Njoku spent most of last season injured. Still just 23-years-old, this could be a low-risk, high-reward acquisition for Green Bay.

Eric Ebron

Eric Ebron’s name probably far outweighs the actual value he provides on a football field. Despite a breakout season in 2018 that saw him haul in 66 receptions for 750 yards and 13 touchdowns, he took a step backward in 2019 when he only caught 31 receptions for 375 yards and three touchdowns. He’ll demand more money than any of the other tight ends on this list and the Packers will have to decide if he’s actually worth it or not.
