Green Bay Packers: Important Offseason Dates To Know
With NFL free agency right around the corner, here are the important dates you should know about the rest of the Green Bay Packers’ offseason.
The NFL offseason is about to blast off with teams putting the final touches on their free agency preparation. The Green Bay Packers are included and hope to upgrade their team and take the next step to reach the Super Bowl in 2021.
Before we get too far, however, let’s take a peek at what’s coming up this offseason. Here are all the important dates you need to know about the next few months.
March 16-18: Legal Tampering Period
Although free agency doesn’t technically start until 4pm on March 18th, teams are allowed to talk with free agents and negotiate contracts during this period. WARNING: This is the time where a lot of free agents will become overpaid. It’s usually the biggest names and the biggest money.
March 18th: Free Agency Begins
The 2020 league year officially begins at 4pm and teams are officially able to announce any free agent signings they may have had during the legal tampering period.
March 29th-April 1st: Annual League Meeting
Personnel from every team gather in Palm Beach, Florida to meet.
April 20th: Offseason Programs can begin with
Every team does it differently, but clubs are legally able to begin offseason workout programs with existing head coaches at this point. Teams with new head coaches are able to begin their programs on April 6th.
April 23-25th: NFL Draft
April 23rd is the first round of the draft, April 24th is the second and third rounds and April 25th is the fourth-seventh rounds. This is one of the best times of the year!
Mid-July: Preseason Training Camps
Teams are allowed to begin preseason training camps, first for their rookies–then for their veterans, during this time.
August 6th: Hall of Fame Game
The first preseason game is played in Canton Ohio, followed by Hall of Fame Weekend.
September 5th: Final Roster Cuts
Teams must trim their roster down to 53 players, at most, by 4pm on this day.
September 10th: Week 1 Begins
Football is finally back, as the NFL kicks off their first game.
