Rely on the Draft

This is certainly the riskiest option of the bunch. For one, we don’t know who is going to be available when the Green Bay Packers are on the clock at 30th overall. And second, going into the draft feeling like you have to take a player leads to reaching and whiffing on your draft picks.

Not to mention that the tackle position isn’t an easy one to transition to from college to the NFL level.

So in my perfect world, the Packers go into draft night already knowing who their starting right tackle is for the 2020 season. And whether it’s Veldeer or Bulaga, for example, hopefully, their plan is to draft a tackle that can sit and learn for at least a season behind a veteran and be the long-term solution at the position.

Some names to keep your eyes on in this year’s class includes Andrew Thomas, Josh Jones, Austin Jackson, Ben Bartch, Lucas Niang, and Prince Tega Wanogho.

However, if they don’t find a reliable solution in free agency and their plan is to find their tackle for 2020 in the draft, well, then they are likely in some serious trouble. This isn’t a position to take lightly or cut costs at, so let’s hope it doesn’t come to this and any tackle selection they do make is for the 2021 season and beyond.
