Green Bay Packers: 5 Dream Free Agent Additions In 2020
If dreams really do come true, the Green Bay Packers would love to sign any one of these five players in this year’s free agency class.
Sometimes it’s fun to dream. However unlikely, it can be joyful to let the mind wander upon things that may or may not ever happen. That’s the case with this article as we take a peek at five free agents the Green Bay Packers would love to sign from this year’s class.
For years under Ted Thompson, the Packers refused to dip their toes into free agency which constantly let fans wanting more during the offseason. Fortunately, Brian Gutekunst has shown more of a willingness to sign players off other teams and improve the Packers through free agency.
We saw it last year with Adrian Amos, Billy Turner, Preston Smith and Za’Darius Smith. And the year before that with Jimmy Graham (even if it didn’t work out the willingness was still there). For this offseason, here are five free agents the Packers would love to sign:
Cory Littleton, LB
It appears it’s highly unlikely the Packers re-sign Blake Martinez which means they will be in the market for a new starting inside linebacker. The players on their roster aren’t ready to fill that void full-time and it would be risky to draft a player with such high expectations. That means they could turn their attention to free agency and to Littleton. Littleton is a true three-down linebacker and would meet all the Packers’ needs at the position.
Byron Jones, CB
Green Bay has used a lot of assets to improve their secondary in recent seasons including the signing of Amos and the drafting of Jaire Alexander (first round), Darnell Savage (first round), Kevin King (second round) and Josh Jackson (second round). Unfortunately, they still have work to do and Jones could help them out in a major way. He’s a versatile player that could play all over the field and help ease the burden King appears to be struggling with on a game-to-game basis.
Austin Hooper, TE
Although Jimmy Graham is still on the roster, it’s probably only a matter of time until the Packers waive him as a salary-cap casualty. That would open up some money for them to spend at the position again and Hooper would be an excellent addition. He’s young and athletic–just what the doctor ordered for the Packers.
Hunter Henry, TE
A better, more injured version of Hooper, Henry is the cream of the tight end crop. His best days could be ahead of him if he can just stay on the field. Whether or not that’s enough to scare Green Bay away is another story.
Amari Cooper, WR
The addition of Cooper would give the Packers two legitimate number one receiving options. Between him and Davante Adams, they’d make it nearly impossible for defenses to figure out who to shade the coverage to. It would be amazing to see that tandem work in Titletown.
