We are two days into the NFL Combine and the Green Bay Packers have already found some time to meet with some of the top receivers in this year’s draft.

It’s the week of the NFL Combine and while no on the field workouts have taken place just yet, a few position groups have already arrived to Indianapolis to be measured and complete some interviews with the media. And of the positional groups that have gone through this process on Monday and Tuesday, for Green Bay Packers’ fans, it most notably includes wide receiver.

After what we saw from this offense last season, it’s quite clear that they need a major boost in the passing game. Geronimo Allison struggled with drops, Marquez Valdes-Scantling’s snap count rapidly decreased, while Jake Kumerow struggled to see consistent playing time.

Fortunately, we saw the emergence of Allen Lazard, but the Packers are going to need more firepower than just him and Davante Adams moving forward.

As a result of the underwhelming play from Green Bay’s wide receiver group, most mock drafts that you look at have them selecting a receiver in the first round. Which as I’ve already stated, is easy to understand why.

In what is a loaded wide receiver class this year there are a few names that Packer fans continue to see pop up in the most recent mock drafts. This list includes Justin Jefferson, Laviska Shenault, and Jalen Reagor, all of which the Green Bay Packers have already reportedly met with at the Combine.

Any one of these players would give this Packers’ passing game an immediate boost and a presence that this team just didn’t have at the receiver position in 2019.

Jefferson is coming off of a huge season with LSU where he had over 1,500 receiving yards with 18 touchdowns and primarily did almost all of his damage from the slot. Last season, Allison was Green Bay’s go-to slot receiver and that just didn’t work out well. The addition of Jefferson would give the Packers a slot presence that they haven’t had since the days of prime Randall Cobb.

Then we have Shenault who is really a do it all type of player. He has the ability to line up anywhere within the formation and early on, Matt LaFleur’s main goal with Shenault should be to put the ball in his hands and let him go to work. Whether it be on jet sweeps, wide receiver screens, or shallow crossing patterns, just find a way to get him the ball in open space.

And when asked about the idea of playing with Aaron Rodgers, Shenault of course, loved the idea:

"“Rodgers? Who wouldn’t want to play with Rodgers? Him and Adams? That’d be a lot of fun.”"

Last but certainly not least is Reagor, who would make an immediate impact as a vertical threat in this Packers’ offense. Which once again, is something that was lacking in 2019 as Valdes-Scantling struggled to see the field. And like Shenault, a big play is always a possibility when the ball is in his hands.

When Reagor was asked about the Packers, he had this to say:

"“I have talked to the Packers. I feel like there’s a lot of interest. We sat and watched film.”"

Now, these are just a few of many conversations and interviews that are going to take place this week between the Green Bay Packers and a number of the prospects. However, we are only two full days into the NFL Combine, and this is certainly a very promising start. I’d love to see any one of these three players in the green and gold in 2020.
