4. Byron Jones

Byron Jones is the prototypical Gutekunst free agent target. The former first-round pick is coming off his rookie deal, and at 27-years-old, is in the prime of his career. This is exactly the type of player Gutekunst targeted last offseason.

Jones brings versatility to any defense he’s on. He began his career as a safety, but switched to corner in 2018. Since the move, he’s played the best football of his career. His experience on the backend of the secondary also allows him to cover tight ends and play near the line of scrimmage on occasion.

Jones would be a huge weapon for defensive coordinator Mike Pettine. Pettine loves to move his players around to keep the offense guessing and Jones would be another player he could do that with.

3. Anthony Harris

Playing as a true safety, the Packers have less of a need for someone like Anthony Harris. Both Amos and Savage Jr. played well enough last season to warrant them as the starters moving forward. Adding Harris to the mix would unnecessarily complicate the situation.

Still, Harris is a sure tackler and holds his own in coverage as well. He’s quietly ascended to become one of the best players at his position and it will be interesting to see if the Minnesota Vikings can retain his services given their salary cap situation.
