Most Important Combine Drills: 40 Yard Dash, Receiving Gauntlet, Workload Questions

Finally, we get to one of the most decorated and accomplished players in college football history, Jonathan Taylor. The two-time Doak Walker winner set almost every rushing record during his time in Wisconsin, breaking the marks for yards as a Freshman (1,977) and total yardage through three years (6,174).

Taylor has been durable and dependable for 41 games as a Badger and showed no signs of wear and tear. However, that will be a major question for teams and coaching staffs after he has carried the ball over 900 times in Madison.

On the field, Taylor has the reputation as a power back with the way he can break tackles and run through contact. But he also has the breakaway speed that shows up on tape, and a great 40-time (4.45 or faster) may vault him up boards into a potential first round pick. If he can keep pace with the other top-tier backs (De’Andre Swift, J.K. Dobbins) with the straight line speed of the 40, he can keep with them in draft status as well.

The other thing that can help Taylor is running the gauntlet as a receiver. He didn’t have many chances to catch passes until his final year at Wisconsin, but showed soft hands and a knack for finding space, so anything that he can do to prove his receiving skills will be a plus for NFL Scouts and Coaches.
