As the Green Bay Packers search for an upgrade in speed and talent at wide receiver, A.J. Green could present a solution to all their problems.

The Green Bay Packers need speed and talent at their wide receiver position. A.J. Green possesses speed and talent at the wide receiver position. Packers meet Green.

The seven-time Pro Bowler could be a sleeping giant in this year’s free agency class. At 31-years-old, his best days are behind him. He’s also coming off an injury that cost him all of last season and a shortened 2018 season. That could be enough to scare teams away and lower his price tag.

However, the Packers should still pursue him this offseason as they look to improve their talent at wide receiver.

Aaron Rodgers’ play continued to slip in 2019 and there’s no denying his age has caught up to him. That doesn’t mean he can’t continue to be productive with the right pieces around him. Long gone are the days where he had four to five viable pass-catching targets to throw to. But the Packers would be smart to get closer to that number.

As it stands, Davante Adams and Aaron Jones are his lone consistent threats in the passing game. And that’s not enough.

At 6-foot-4, Green can still stretch defenses and make them respect another receiver opposite Adams. He’s great at getting downfield and then using his height and jumping ability to high-point the football in the air. This would be a huge weapon for the Packers to possess. He’s also racked up at least 1000 receiving yards in every season he’s played more than 10 games. His best season came in 2013 when he caught 98 receptions for 1426 yards and 11 touchdowns.

He’s also a good red-zone target, having caught at least six touchdowns in seven of his eight seasons. This would be huge for the Packers, as they could use some more potency inside the 20.

It remains to be seen what the price tag for a player like Green is. On the one hand, he’s an elite-level player who can stretch the field and open up many things for Green Bay. On the other hand, he’s a big question mark and could struggle to even stay on the field. After all, availability is the best ability.
