Green Bay Packers: 3 Free Agent WRs to Target
By Paul Bretl
Robby Anderson
Well, I said I had one high-profile player for this list and it is Robby Anderson who I thought could have been a nice addition for the Green Bay Packers back at the trade deadline. And while it didn’t work out then, they now have another opportunity to bring him to Titletown.
Although Marquez Valdes-Scantling is just two years into his NFL career, he hasn’t developed into the reliable deep threat that the team had hoped he’d be. However, Anderson is polished and ready to wreak havoc on opposing defenses.
Over his four-year career, Anderson is averaging 764.7 receiving yards per year with nearly 15 yards per catch and 20 total touchdowns. This includes nearly having a 1,000 yard season in 2017 and in 2019, Anderson’s 13 receptions of 20 or more yards would have been the most on this Packers team.
And when looking at his stats, we also have to keep in mind the quarterback play that he has had to deal with over the last four years on the New York Jets. With Aaron Rodgers slinging him the ball, there is the potential for a huge season from Anderson.
As far as what it would cost to bring Anderson to Green Bay, Spotrac is projecting that he will land a contract this offseason worth four years and $48.2 million, which equals out to an average annual value of $12 million.
For the Green Bay Packers who at the moment have just under $22 million in cap space according to Spotrac – although they can free up an additional $12 million by moving on from Lane Taylor and Jimmy Graham – they have other needs outside of receiver to address as well. And allocating roughly 33 percent of their available cap space to one player when tackle, inside linebacker, and defensive tackle also need attention is certainly going to limit what they can do at those other positions.
