While we may not see four big signings like last offseason, the Green Bay Packers still need to be active in free agency once again. Here are some of the notable options at key positions.

The offseason is here for the Green Bay Packers and while the ending to the 2019 season was certainly disappointing, embarrassing, or pick any word of your liking, overall it was still a success.

With an almost brand new coaching staff, including the head coach with Matt LaFelur of course, not to mention a number of new faces on the roster, the Packers had an incredible turnaround in just one years time.

However as we saw against San Francisco, this team wasn’t a real Super Bowl contender. They still have some needs to fill at a few particular positions and as we saw in 2019, free agency can be a great place to do just that.

So below I have my top-6 positions of need and some of the notable free agents available in 2020.

Tackle

Now, I want to preface this by saying that I think the tackle position should be a top priority, but if Green Bay does sign a free agent tackle, I have a hard time imagining that it won’t be Bryan Bulaga. And if they do intend to find his eventual replacement – which isn’t a bad idea –  I expect that to be addressed in the draft. With all of that said, here are some of the notable tackles available, if instead the Packers go this route.

Free Agents:

  • Anthony Castonzo
  • Jack Conklin
  • Bryan Bulaga
  • Jared Veldheer
  • Andrew Whitworth
  • Jason Peters
  • D.J. Humphries

Tight End

While I am comfortable with both Jace Sternberger and Robert Tonyan seeing more playing time next season, given the nature of the position, I think that having a veteran tight end a part of the team can be quite valuable.

Free Agents:

  • Austin Hooper
  • Hunter Henry
  • Eric Ebron
  • Tyler Eifert
  • Marcedes Lewis
  • Charles Clay
  • Vance McDonald

Cornerback

To put it simply, I just think this position needs more depth. Jaire Alexander is becoming a shutdown corner, Kevin King put together a solid season, and we saw the emergence of Chandon Sullivan over the second half of the season. However, after those three there is some uncertainty.

Free Agents:

  • Bradley Roby
  • James Bradberry
  • Javien Elliot
  • Byron Jones
  • Chris Harris
  • Troy Hill
  • Tramon Williams
  • Logan Ryan
  • Trae Waynes
  • Brian Poole
  • Kendall Fuller

Inside Linebacker

Blake Martinez is likely gone and while B.J. Goodson is also a free agent, even if the Green Bay Packers do decide to bring him back, he is a limited player. This is a position that must be addressed this offseason because Oren Burks and Ty Summers just aren’t going to cut it.

Free Agents:

  • Cory Littleton
  • Joe Schobert
  • Jamie Collins
  • Nick Kwiatkoski
  • Josh Bynes
  • Danny Trevathan

Wide Receiver

Going back to last offseason, many thought this was a position that needed to be addressed at that time and over the course of the season, it was quite evident how much talent was lacking here. Between the draft and free agency it is time to bring in two or three new options that can compete for playing time and hopefully be difference makers.

Free Agents:

  • Amari Cooper
  • A.J. Green
  • Robby Anderson
  • Emmanuel Sanders
  • Danny Amendola
  • Randall Cobb
  • Tajae Sharpe
  • Devin Funchess

Defensive Tackle

Just about all season long the Green Bay Packers really struggled to defend the run – especially up the middle – and the interior defensive line was absolutely exposed by San Francisco in the NFC Championship game. While Kenny Clark is about as good as they get, it is time to get him some additional help to join Dean Lowry, Tyler Lancaster, and Montravius Adams.

Free Agents:

  • Chris Jones
  • D.J. Reader
  • Javon Hargrave
  • Leonard Williams
  • Michael Pierce
  • Shelby Harris
  • Jarran Reed
  • Gerald McCoy

Next. 3 Players who Exceeded Expectations in 2019. dark

Of course there are many more players available at these positions than what I have listed here, but these are some of the more notable names that will be available for the Green Bay Packers this offseason. We may not see four big signings like we did in 2019, but the Packers do have the available cap space that they could make a splash or two.
