Green Bay Packers vs Seattle Seahawks: 5 Matchups to Watch
2. Packers’ Corners vs Seahawks’ Wideouts
If Seattle still had Josh Gordon, this would be an even more difficult matchup. Luckily for Green Bay, they don’t have to worry about that. However, they do still have two supremely talented players in Lockett and rookie D.K. Metcalf. Metcalf is coming off of a great game against the Eagles where he caught seven of nine targets for 160 yards and a touchdown. His combination of size and speed make him a tough cover for anyone that he matches up with.
The Green Bay Packers’ best cornerback is Jaire Alexander, and he’ll see his fair share of Metcalf on Sunday. However, it’s going to be a group effort to shut him down, and the safeties will have to be in perfect sync on the deep routes if any of the corners get beat. There have been times this season where Green Bay has been taken advantage of down the field because their safeties weren’t operating on the same page as everyone else.
In addition to Metcalf, Lockett is no slouch. His speed and route-running give him the ability to take any ball to the house when he’s across the middle. This is an area of the field where Alexander can excel thanks to his agility and short-area quickness. If Green Bay allows Seattle to get their offense going through the air, especially with the struggles that the Seahawks have shown on the ground as of late, this game could get out of hand.
