Green Bay Packers vs Washington Redskins: 5 Matchups to Watch
5. Jaire Alexander vs Terry McLaurin
One month into the season, these guys were both looked at as two of the brightest young stars at their positions. Jaire Alexander has been able to hold onto his pace for the most part, but Terry McLaurin has faded due to inconsistent quarterback play. Alexander isn’t deployed in shadow coverage often, but he could be this week as McLaurin is the only consistent receiving weapon that Washington is going to trot onto the field.
McLaurin is the only Redskins’ pass-catcher that has more than 28 receptions on the season with 42 and 16 of his receptions came in the first three games. Terry does the majority of his damage down the field, and that’s not the type of offense that Washington is running under interim head coach Bill Callahan. They prefer short passing concepts while they grind out yards with their two-headed attack in the backfield.
Thankfully for Alexander, he’ll get to work more in the short areas where his quickness and aggressiveness can be put to good use. His ability to click and close on the pass allows him to break up a lot of passes, which is why he leads the team with 14. If Washington is going to get anything going in the passing game, it will be through McLaurin, and, if Alexander shuts him down, it will be over.
