1. Gerrit Cole, SP

Ah, the prize free agent. Gerrit Cole is the cream of the 2019 free agency crop. He has everything you’d want in a starting pitcher and is on the short list for the best in the game. What a perfect time for him to hit free agency and score a mega deal.

Cole started 33 games for the Houston Astros last season, going 20-5 with a 2.55 ERA. What a beast! He also pitched at least 200 innings for the fourth time in five seasons. He’s nearly unhittable.

At 29-years-old, Cole is looking for a contract that will last almost a decade. That seems impossible for the Brewers to hand out. It’s not that he’s not worth it, it’s that such a deal would handicap any financial flexibility Milwaukee would have.
