Green Bay Packers vs Detroit Lions: 5 Matchups to keep your eyes on
3. Packers’ O-Line vs Lions’ D-Line
Green Bay’s offensive line, specifically, Bryan Bulaga, has been playing some of the NFL’s best football. Bulaga has played a murderer’s row of opponents in Danielle Hunter, Brandon Graham, Khalil Mack, Demarcus Lawrence and Von Miller, and he hasn’t allowed a sack or quarterback hit to this point in the season. The team as a whole is sixth in the NFL with just 10 sacks allowed, but they’ve allowed just five in the four weeks since Week 1.
For Detroit, they’ve generated just nine sacks on the year, which is tied for the third-fewest in the NFL. After investing $90 million in Trey Flowers this offseason, they were likely hoping to get more production out of this group. They’re also allowing a decent 4.28 yards per carry. Even if Rodgers is unable to get things going through the air, they can get the running game going against this front to set up the pass, as Matt LaFleur loves to do.
Devon Kennard and Romeo Okwara can provide pressure up the middle, especially if Billy Turner, who is the 53rd-graded guard, continues to struggle. Turner has looked overmatched multiple times every week, and Green Bay can’t afford to have a weak link in the middle of the line, especially if Corey Linsley is out with a concussion. This defensive line doesn’t have a ton of star power, but they are well-coached. Mike Daniels also may be holding a slight grudge.
