3. Preston Smith

Preston Smith was one of the Packers’ four big free agent acquisitions in the offseason and he’s off to a great start. Known more as a run-stopper, Smith has spent a lot of time getting after the quarterback this year. Through just five games, he already has 5.5 sacks and is on track to best his career-high of eight.

In addition to his sacks, he’s also hit the quarterback 10 times and has four tackles for loss. The amount of time he’s spent in the backfield is a great sign for this defense and he’s been one of the leaders on and off the field. He’s been one of the biggest differences between this year and last for the Packers.

With the games getting bigger and bigger as the season goes on, Smith will look to continue to play well. Gutekunst looks like he hit a home run with this addition and Smith is just getting started.
