With Davante Adams likely out for Sunday’s game, the Green Bay Packers need Marquez Valdes-Scantling to have a big game against Dallas.

Last Thursday night against the Philadelphia Eagles, star wide receiver Davante Adams was in the midst of a career game before he unexpectedly had to leave. It was later on that we would learn that Adams was suffering from turf toe, which can be a nagging injury in the football world.

Although at this point nothing has been confirmed, on Monday night, ESPN’s Adam Schefter would say that it is going to be unlikely that Adams will play this coming Sunday against Dallas. For any team at any time, losing a player of Adams’ caliber is going to hurt but for this Green Bay Packers team that is still trying to figure things out offensively, it could be devastating.

Through four weeks the Packers have struggled to get the running game going as they average just 86.3 yards per game, which is ranked 26th in the NFL and they could very well be without Jamaal Williams this week as well. That results in a lot of pressure on the passing game as we saw last week when Aaron Rodgers attempted 53 passes.

Not to mention that they will be going up against a stout Dallas Cowboys’ defense that is allowing only 221.8 passing yards per game which is the 10th fewest in football and they are holding offenses to just 14 points per game, the third-fewest in the NFL.

So with Adams’ absence, things have definitely become more difficult for the Green Bay offense and if they hope to steal a victory on the road, someone is going to need to step up in the passing game and produce.

The wide receiver two position was a bit of question mark on this Green Bay Packers team even before the season started as GM Brian Gutekunst didn’t address the position in the offseason as many had anticipated. And up to this point, no one has really stepped up and taken control of the job.

Geronimo Allison has a couple of touchdowns, while Jimmy Graham has just disappeared at times. Neither has shown any sort of consistency. Meanwhile, Marquez Valdes-Scantling’s (MVS) production has been sporadic but he gives this offense that home run potential and is easily the most talented of the three. Now with Adams out, it is time to produce.

MVS’ best game of the short season came against Denver when he was targeted 10 times and hauled in six receptions for 99 yards with a touchdown. However, over the other three games combined, he’s only had an additional 10 receptions for 118 yards. It’s certainly nothing to write home about.

Over MVS’ career, we’ve seen the flashes and he has the potential of being a very good number two receiver for the Green Bay Packers behind Adams, but we need to see it more often. And I expect that we will with more time, he is only four games into his sophomore season. With that said, if the Packers are going to beat Dallas, they will need a big game from MVS this Sunday.
