3. Matt LaFleur vs Jim Schwartz

When Matt LaFleur was hired, the goal was for him to bring new energy to the building and revitalize the offense. He’s accomplished the first goal in a major way. At times, the second goal looked like it was licked, but the team hasn’t put together a complete game on that side of the ball yet. In Week 4, he’ll be facing a defensive coordinator that has gone up against Rodgers many times, and he knows what tendencies to have.

Green Bay is fifth in the NFL in first-quarter points per game with an average of seven. In the fourth quarter, they are 29th with an average of two points. LaFleur and the offense need to find a way to get past the initial scripted plays and get the team to steadily put up points all game. When the team needs a late drive to score a touchdown, they don’t have a ton of confidence that they can do that as things stand right now.

For Schwartz, he played against Rodgers a lot during his five seasons as the Detroit Lions’ head coach. In those five seasons, the Lions were able to knock off the Packers twice in 10 tries. Those aren’t great odds, but the Packers had a vice-grip on the division during that period. If Schwartz can slow down the Packers’ offense enough that he gives his offense a chance to get a late score, that’s all he can hope for.
