Green Bay Packers can’t stop run, late comeback falls short
The Green Bay Packers were gashed on the run and couldn’t convert inside their five-yard line as they fell to the Philadelphia Eagles.
- It was a very emotional beginning to the game. Jaire Alexander and Zach Ertz got into in following an incompletion. On the Packers’ first possession, Jamaal Williams appeared to be literally knocked out following a dirty hit by Philadelphia. He was put on a stretcher and taken off the field.
- Getting back to football action, the Packers scored on their fifth play. Davante Adams did most of the damage, including a 58-yard reception down the sideline. Aaron Jones finished it off a couple plays later with a three-yard rushing touchdown.
- The defense stopped Philadelphia just before mid-field on their first two possessions and forced punts. Green Bay added a Mason Crosby Field goal at the beginning of the second quarter. 10-0.
- For the second straight week, and the second time in five days, the Packers give up a 60-yard kickoff return. The Eagles started with great field position and capitalized with a touchdown. 10-7.
- The Packers drive the length of the field again, but have to settle for a field goal. 13-7.
- Green Bay’s kickoff woes continue, as Crosby kicks the ball out of bounds. The Eagles start with great field position for the second straight possession. And they score a touchdown for the second straight time and take their first lead of the game. 13-14.
- Rodgers is immediately strip-sacked following the two-minute warning and the Eagles recover. They promptly score a touchdown for a third straight time following great field position. 13-21.
- What a response! With 59 seconds remaining in the second quarter, the Packers drive 75 yards and score a touchdown with four seconds left. 20-21 at the half.
- The Packers had the chance to take the lead at the beginning of the second half. Unfortunately, they found themselves on the receiving end of another questionable call. They punt to the Eagles who drive right down the field and score another touchdown. Oddly enough, they go for two, but fail to pick it up. This is not the same Packers’ defense we saw through the first three weeks. 20-27.
- After trading punts, the Packers go 72 yards in eight plays and score via a Jimmy Graham 14-yard touchdown reception from Rodgers. Speaking of Rodgers, he’s doing a great job picking up the slack considering the defense doesn’t have their A-game.
- The Packers have some serious issues with their run defense. Philly gashes them again, as they have all night long, and Jordan Howard scores his third touchdown of the game at the start of the fourth quarter. 27-34.
- Green Bay responds nicely, well, almost. They drive the ball all the way to the one-yard line and were set up with a first-and-goal from that one. Unfortunately, four incompletions later, three to Graham and they turn it over on downs. Oh, and Davante Adams went out toward the end of the possession with an injury.
- After the Eagles move the ball to mid-field, they eventually punt with Green Bay taking over at the 11. There is 5:02 remaining and Adams is listed as questionable to return with a toe injury. It all falls on Rodgers.
- And he almost did it. Rodgers and the Packers drove all the way inside the five-yard line before the Eagles picked off a pass in the endzone and sealed the deal. 27-34 final.
