Green Bay Packers @ Chicago Bears: 5 Matchups to Watch
2. Matt LaFleur vs Chuck Pagano
The Nagy vs Mike Pettine matchup is absolutely one to watch. Both know how to pull the right strings at the right time. Despite that, the matchup that everyone will be dying to see is the Packers offense vs the Bears defense. Under Rodgers, the Green Bay Packers had consistently been one of the NFL’s best, but they stagnated over the last few years to become nothing more than an average offense with some heroics by Rodgers.
On the other side, the Bears had the NFL’s best defense, and they have a brand new coordinator. During his time with the Indianapolis Colts, Pagano had some bad defenses that were covered up by a great offense. The problem though was the lack of talent. This is the most talented group of defenders he’s likely ever coached, outside of maybe the 2011 Baltimore Ravens group that featured Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, and Terrell Suggs.
The Packers offense has the pieces to be explosive, and the Bears can slow them down. This is the second-most important battle in this week’s game, and neither of these guys will even be playing a single snap. LaFleur is a rookie head coach under the spotlight for the first time. The veteran could know some things that work that LaFleur hasn’t even thought of yet, and they’ll both likely be pulling out all the stops.
