The Green Bay Packers open the 2019 season against the Chicago Bears on Thursday night football. The key matchups to watch will decide the game.

The Green Bay Packers are heading to Chicago to take on the Bears to kick off the NFL’s 100th season. After seven long months, the NFL is finally back. No more preseason. No more training camp. No more roster jostling. It’s time for games that matter. For the Packers, it’s time to start their road back to success after back-to-back losing seasons for the first time in over two decades. Green Bay is healthy with a new head coach and a ton of optimism.

Coming off of their 2018 season, the Bears will be looking to build on last year’s success. They had the NFL’s best defense, and they made it to the playoffs under first-year head coach Matt Nagy. They lost defensive coordinator Vic Fangio to the Denver Broncos, along with a few defensive playmakers. GM Ryan Pace didn’t let that stop him, as he reloaded in hopes of maximizing this team’s title window.

Last year, the Packers won on a miraculous comeback after Aaron Rodgers returned from a knee injury to torch the Bears defense with quick-hitting passes and big plays. Their defense is better on paper, but games are won on the field. Whichever team wins these five matchups is likely going to come out on top. Green Bay has the talent to compete, but it’s all about starting the year off right to make the 2019 season go the way they want.
