Green Bay Packers vs Kansas City Chiefs: 5 bold predictions
Here are five bold predictions for the Green Bay Packers final preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Green Bay Packers are nearly finished with their slate of exhibition games, as they wrap up their fourth and final contest when they host the Kansas City Cheifs on Thursday night. It will be the Packers second home game this preseason and there couldn’t be a better way to mark the conclusion of these meaningless games.
The Packers take on the Chicago Bears next Thursday night in the NFL opener. It’s a game that will give us our first true look about this year’s team. With Aaron Rodgers failing to take a snap in the preseason (and that won’t change tonight), it’s been nearly impossible to accurately assess just how good this year’s team is or will be.
Even if most of the fan base is looking ahead to the regular season, there are still some roster decisions that hang in the balance. Here are five bold predictions about what we might see on against the Chiefs.
5. Mason Crosby finalizes his spot on the roster
Crosby has locked in a battle with Sam Ficken since the beginning of camp. Fortunately, it looks like the veteran will prevail and he’ll do so by nailing a couple of field goals against Kansas City. Green Bay has always preferred Crosby to keep his job thanks to his ability to kick in the cold weather. That has allowed him to stay in the race throughout despite battling an injury early on. Green Bay will keep Crosby and could see Ficken in Week 1 when they face the Bears.
4. Dexter Williams finally catches a pass
Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones are locked in as the top two running backs on the roster. However, there’s an intense battle for the third spot. As of now, Tra Carson is the favorite. Williams has more natural ability, but has struggled to catch the ball and provide adequate pass protection. We’ll finally see him catch a screen pass and turn it into a big gain on Thursday night.
3. Rashan Gary finally records a sack
Rashan Gary has played a ton of preseason snaps. Especially for a mid to high first-round pick. And, similar to his college days at Michigan, he’s failed to produce a significant impact for his team. However, he’ll finally get on the board and record his first sack of the preseason against the Chiefs.
2. Elgton Jenkins locks in starting job
The left guard spot is a battle that has been raging since Week 1 of the exhibition season between Jenkins and Lane Taylor. Taylor is the incumbent and was given the first chance at starting. However, it appears this coaching staff would like nothing more than Jenkins to earn that spot. He’ll finally do so in the last week.
1. Tim Boyle continues to shine
With Aaron Rodgers suddenly sitting out last week due to the poor field conditions, Tim Boyle was surprisingly given the start. After a slow first quarter, he lit it up in the second and led his team on three touchdown drives. He’ll continue to maximize his opportunities against the Chiefs and will be one step closer to securing the backup job behind Rodgers.
