Running Back & Fullback (4)

Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams, Tra Carson & Danny Vitale

I’m cheating a little bit by lumping Danny Vitale in with the running backs, but I wasn’t going to make an entire slide just for him. Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams are virtual locks. Danny Vitale became a fan favorite during the preseason and training camp, and, with the way that the Matt LaFleur offense is going to use fullbacks, he’s going to have a spot on it. Malcolm Johnson and Tommy Bohanan missed the cut this time.

Between Dexter Williams and Tra Carson, it was a bit of a tough battle. Williams was the draft pick, and he seemingly had the inside track on the roster spot. Unfortunately for him, he hasn’t done anything spectacular during the preseason to earn that spot. On the flip side, Carson has been solid in pass protection, and he has some experience with the Packers already being on the roster last season.

Carson also brings a little bit of special teams value. With the ability to contribute more right away than Williams, who may sneak onto the practice squad, he gets the nod here. Jones and Williams have clearly defined roles as the two lead backs, and it will be exciting to see how they get utilized in LaFleur’s system that is more friendly to running backs than we ever saw under former head coach Mike McCarthy.
