Quarterback (2)

Aaron Rodgers & Tim Boyle

Aaron Rodgers is making the roster. Duh, we all knew that one. The one that’s more up for debate though is the backup quarterback spot. DeShone Kizer has been anything but spectacular since he entered the NFL. He has a record of 0-15 as a starter, and he’s thrown just 11 touchdowns compared to 24 interceptions. He also has 10 fumbles during that time and he has 34 total turnovers in two years. The experiment has come to an end.

Enter, Tim Boyle. Boyle has been the Green Bay Packers’ highest-graded player on offense during the preseason. He has thrown for five touchdowns and no interceptions. He fits the Packers’ style of offense better than Kizer does, and it makes more sense to keep him at this point. Even if Kizer still has the higher ceiling, Boyle has a higher floor which should be your goal when you have a quarterback like Rodgers. If he gets hurt, you don’t want to have to drastically change everything.

Ideally, Boyle’s only snaps this season will come at the end of games when the team is just trying to run out the clock in some big wins, similar to how Rodgers was used when he was first on the team behind Hall-of-Famer Brett Favre. In a case of emergency though, Boyle gives you more confidence than Kizer. Kizer may still have a chance to be successful, but it won’t be in Green Bay in 2019.
