Safety (5)

Adrian Amos, Darnell Savage Jr., Raven Greene, Will Redmond & Natrell Jamerson

Adrian Amos is a lock. He was one of the team’s primary targets for free agency this year, and they locked him up and stole him from the division-rival Chicago Bears. Amos doesn’t always make the flashy or splash play, but, similar to Jenkins on the offensive line, he makes the right play. At a position that has seen some questionable play over the last couple of years, that’s exactly what you want on the back-end.

First-round draft pick Darnell Savage Jr. got a slow start to training camp after dealing with some dry socket following wisdom tooth surgery, but he’s been flying around ever since he returned. He’ll be the starter alongside Amos, and he’s received plenty of positive reviews throughout camp. Next, we have Raven Greene. Following the release of Josh Jones, the hybrid safety-linebacker spot is Greene’s. He’s played solid and looked great thus far in the middle of the defense.

The final spots came down to a couple of guys. Will Redmond, Ibraheim Campbell, and Natrell Jamerson were all battling for these spots, but Campbell is the man left out in the cold. His injury means that he’ll likely start the season on the PUP list while the other two will be ready to go right away. Pettine likes to have versatility with his safeties, and that’s what this group of guys is going to give him.
